Need extra money for college? 

Below is a list of scholarships available.  Please check with the Guidance Office for further information and other scholarships.  Please note that deadlines may change.

Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship Program To apply, you must file a FAFSA with the federal government.  That form is not available until December and can not be filed until after January 1, 2005.  Please see the 5 types below. see below  
1.   Hope Scholarship 3.0 GPA or 19 on the ACT $3000 for 4 year Institutions

$1500 for 2 year Institutions

 

 
2.  General Assembly Merit   Scholarship 3.75 and a 29 on the ACT $1000 supplement to the Hope Scholarship  
3.  Need-Based Supplemental Award Meet the requirements for the Hope and Parent(s) adjusted income on the FAFSA of $36,000 or less. $1000 supplement to the Hope Scholarship  
4.  Tennessee HOPE Access Grant  GPA of 2.75 and 18 on the ACT and adjusted gross income of $36,000 $2000 for a 4 year Institution

$1250 for a 2 year Institution

 
5.  Wilder-Naifeh Technical Skills Grant Full time enrollment in one of the Tennessee Technology Centers $1250  
       
Academic Booster Club The South Greene ABC awards several scholarships to SGHS seniors $500 April 1
A.I.M. Scholar A scholarship is available at ETSU and WSCC.  You must be an A.I.M. Scholar ? Late April
American Cancer Society To be eligible, a student must have had a diagnosis of cancer before the age of 21.  Minimum GPA of 2.5. ? March 1
American Business Women's Association / Marguerite Brumley Chapter Female seniors with a C+ average based on results of transcript / resume ? April 3
Captain D's Student tuition reimbursement to employees or a child or spouse of an employee. Up to $600 ?
Carmen Cox Scholarship Seniors who plan to major in business or business related field.  Awarded solely on merit, not financial need. ? April 15
DAR - Carrie McGaughey Clemens Memorial Student must plan to attend Tusculum ? February 15
DAR - Mary Hurley Wells Memorial This scholarship is available to students and relatives of DAR members. $1000 February 15

Greene County Personnel Association Scholarship Seniors planning to pursue a bachelor's degree in business; based on income, good grades, extra-curricular activities, community activities. $600 May 1
Greene County Republican Women Scholarship Student must be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild of a member of Greene County Federation of Republican Women; based on income, transcript, GPA, ACT, essay. $500 3rd Monday of April
Greeneville / Greene County Retired Teachers  Seniors who want to become a teacher; 3.0 GPA, 21 ACT, transcript, income. $500 May 1

SAE Engineering Scholarship To qualify, the student must be admitted to an accredited Engineering Program at a participating university.  Processing fee $5. $400 - full tuition December 1

Elizabeth Tarlton Scholarship / Greeneville Professional Secretaries Seniors planning a secretarial career based on character, citizenship, scholarship, recommendations, financial need. $500 April 4
Tennessee Burglar & Alarm Association This scholarship is presented to children of law enforcement or fire personnel.  A parent must be a full-time active duty employee of a police or sherrif's department or a full-time paid or volunteer member of a fire department. ? March 1
TSAC - Ned McWherter Scholarship Must have a 3.5 or higher GPA and at least a 28 on the ACT.  You must file a FAFSA with the Department of Education. ? February 15
TSAC - Dependent Children's Scholarship This scholarship is available to dependents of law enforcement and fire department personnel who are permanently disabled or killed in the line of duty.  You will need to provide documents proving the disability of your parent or if your parent is deceased, an obituary, etc. ? March 1
U.S. JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship Program Based on grades, test scores, and activities. $1000 January 24
Wal-Mart Competitive Edge Scholarship Seniors with a 27ACT, 3.5 GPA, 90% class rank, community service, and leadership, major in manufacturing, industry, technology areas, essay $5000 a year March 2

Various companies have scholarship competitions for children of employees - check with your parents place of employment.

Most clubs and fraternal organizations provide scholarships for dependents of their members.  Please check with your chapter.

State schools give a tuition break to children of state employees.

Most colleges have a separate application for scholarships at that institution.  Please check at the financial aid office or in the guidance office at SGHS.

www.fastweb.com     A free scholarship search.  Just fill in the profile and they will email you lists of scholarships for which you are qualified. 

www.edsouth.org or www.edamerica.com     Another free service for scholarship and other financial aid information.

www.fafsa.ed.gov     The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on line.  You can file your application and check the results.  Be sure to apply for a PIN number for a parent and the student before you try to fill out the form on-line. 

www.state.tn.us/tsac     The Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation website.

www.mapping-your-future.org     Another free site for occupational and financial aid information.

www.act.org     The official site for the ACT (American College Testing) organization.  You can find sample tests, study tips, etc.

An ACT tutorial program and a career exploration program are available for student use.  These programs can be used in the computer lab and the library at SGHS.
