USS GREENEVILLE OFFICERS VISIT OUR SCHOOL

Our school was honored to have as our very special guests three members of the nuclear submarine USS Greeneville (SSN 772) on Tuesday, September 27th.
Their submarine is presently docked at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii as part of the Pacific fleet. They were Commanding Officer Lorin C. Selby, Master Chief  Petty Officer Brett L. Thompson, Chief of the Boat,  and USS Greeneville Sailor of the Year Chief  Petty Officer Edward T. Miller.  Sharon Harris of Mosheim accompanied them as their hostess.  She displays a plague given to our school detailing information about the submarine above.  Dale Long from Mosheim also accompanied them.  He was very instrumental in getting the submarine idea started a few years ago.
Here are some examples of questions our students asked:   "How big is the submarine?"  The answer is 362 feet long, 33 feet in diameter, and its weight is 7,000 tons.  "Can the submarine travel up and down rivers and lakes?"  The answer was no.  "Where does the submarine travel?"  The answer was the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
It was an informative and exciting event for everyone.  Mrs. Jones presented our guests with a small token of our appreciation at the end of the ceremony.

Thank You!
