Dear Parents:

Open House was great this year!  I appreciate you coming and meeting your child’s teacher and familiarizing yourself with all the school happenings.  It is so important for your child to know you care about his/her education.  I also want to thank you for attending the Grade Level meetings we had for your child.  Each grade level met and explained what you could expect for the new school year.  I was thrilled by the good attendance.  I hope you have a better understanding of what to expect for this year.  It is so important for good communication to exist between home and school in order to make your child successful.

Please support our PTA.  This organization is YOU and the TEACHERS working together to provide things for the students.  Since fund-raising is now so very limited, the school depends on help from other sources.  PTA is Mosheim School.  Membership is only $1.00 per person. Please support its mission and volunteer to help.

Food City is continuing its program for schools.  However, they will not be using receipts.  They will provide a Value Card.  For the school to receive credit for your grocery shopping, you must go on their website to activate the card.  It is really simple to do.  After you activate the card for Mosheim School, all you have to do is present the card every time you shop at Food City.  Food City has always been a great source of help for us.  Please remember to present your card, after you activate it online for Mosheim School, every time you shop at Food City.  We appreciate your support of your school!!!

If you filled out papers for your child to have dental work done at the Greene County Health Department, please make sure you send in the Transportation form to Mrs. Lucy.  We cannot let your child go on the bus until we have permission.  This is a wonderful service that the Health Department provides for our students, and we are very appreciative.

Please check out our school website- www.greenek12.org/mosheim.  Benna Bennett is our Webmaster.  Visiting our website will keep you abreast of activities going on at Mosheim.  There are also some wonderful academic links that you and your child can discover together.  The Greene County Schools website is www.greenek12.org .  This website also gives information for the schools and also provides academic links.

Remember our Tardy/Attendance policy that is in place for grades 6-8.  This policy has been adopted by the Greene County Board of Education.  Grades K-5 will adhere to the same tardy guidelines.  After 5 tardies, your child will serve an afterschool detention.  If they do not stay when scheduled, they must be placed in inschool suspension or the equivalent thereof.  “Tardy” means coming to school late or leaving early.  The Tardy bell rings at 7:55.  That means all students have to be in their seats at 7:55, not just physically in the building.  I appreciate all of you getting your children to school by 7:50.  Keep up the good work!

The Parent Advisory Committee for the 2008-2009 school year is as follows:  Christinia Greenlee- the Mosheim School representative on the Greene County Parent Advisory Committee- 422-9420; Kindergarten representatives- Christi Bolton- 422-9484  and Hallie Caraway- 422-4563; First Grade representatives- Janice Wampler- 422-7682 ,  Mark Rothe- 422-6144, and Angela Ebbert- 638-4477 ;  Second Grade representatives- Amy Luttrell- 470-2173; Amy Harrison- 638-3941 and Amber Potter- 422-7253 ; Third Grade representatives- Michele Smyth- 422-7033 and Carla Ramsey- 422-7269; Fourth Grade representatives- Eric Daniels- 823-1748, Margaret Knight- 422-6742, and Valerie Gray- 422-6600; Fifth Grade representative-  Tracie Majors- 422-2950; Sixth Grade representatives- Sherri Gass- 422-2950 and Melissa Morehouse- 422-7397; Seventh Grade representatives- Billie Fox- 422-7749 and Annette Farris- 422-7115; Eighth Grade representatives- Yvonne Byrd- 422-7971 and Kelle Lowery- 422-7994.  I have still not heard from a fifth grade parent that was asked to serve.  If he cannot serve, I will recruit another fifth grade volunteer.  You may contact these parent representatives on any issue that you would like to come before the Mosheim Parent Advisory Committee.

I have already received several cell phones that belong to students.  I want to remind you of Greene County School Board procedures- 1st time taken up- kept a week; 2nd time taken up- kept a month; and 3rd time taken up-not returned.  Please discuss this policy with your child.

Volleyball, Football, and Cross-Country season is here.  Come and enjoy seeing Mosheim athletic teams play.   Our band will be performing at some of the football games.

Remember to put your school calendar on your refrigerator in order for you to keep up with all the happenings at Mosheim School.  There is something going on all the time, and you wouldn’t want to miss anything that was important to your child. Due to not having a school-wide fund-raising this year, we will still not be mailing the newsletter/calendar home unless funding becomes available.  We will always have one on hand at both offices if you are at school and wish to pick one up.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend, and I wish everyone a peaceful September.

Sincerely,

Yhona A. Jones
