| On Thursday November 9th,
National Weather Service Hydrologist Brian Boyd from Morristown spent
the day with our seventh graders. Before each presentation began,
he promised each group of students three things: 1. They would
learn something they never knew before. 2. They would discover
that they were smarter than they thought they were. 3. They would
have fun. Each group found he kept his promises. Students
got involved in many of his demonstrations. On a lighter note, he
mixed funny stories with the activities. His "cloud in a bottle"
demonstration showed students how heating the air in the bottle caused
the water vapor to disappear and how cooling the air caused that vapor
to condense, forming a cloud. He used the internet to show
various
weather model depictions and observations from around the
country. His magical demonstration had an egg going into a bottle
all by itself. Thank You, Mr. Boyd for an exceptional educational experience! |
