Screening and evaluation to help determine
eligibility for special
education.

Provide direct therapy services to eligible
students, including
exercise, gait training, gross motor skills,
use of adaptive equipment, braces
and wheelchairs.

Serve as resource personnel to address classroom
positioning, gross motor activities, and proper lifting
techniques.
Occupational Therapists use activities and environmental modifications to facilitate a student’s independence and ability to participate in the educational process. The Occupational therapist can provide:
~ Screening and evaluation to help determine eligibility for special education.
~ Provide direct therapy to eligible students including exercise and training in self-care, fine motor, visual motor, and visual processing skills, and sensory integration processing.
~
Serve as resource personnel to address classroom
positioning, behaviors, fine motor activities and use of adaptive
equipment and
adaptive technology.
~ Providing teachers and administrators with consultations and in-service education.
~ Assist parents in dealing with the varied problems of parenting a handicapped child.
~ Liaison with Pediatricians, Orthopedists, Neurologists and other medical specialists.
Physical and Occupational therapists are health care practitioners and services require parental permission and referral from the student’s physician. Any provided services must be part of an IEP and are to be coordinated with educational goals.
