READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY
CELEBRATED MARCH 2, 2004
NEA started Read Across America
in 1998 as a way to get kids excited about reading,
and it has become the nation's largest reading event. The
year-round program culminates each year on or near Dr. Seuss's birthday.
This year marked the Seussentenial - a century of imagination.
Teachers and students decorated
their doors with illustrated book covers or other creative tributes to
celebrate the day.
Our cafeteria manager began our
day by serving Green Eggs and Ham
which the students really enjoyed. During lunch students enjoyed
Dr. Seuss's 100th birthday cake. The second grade won a special birthday
party.
Board member
Kathy Austin read "The Places You'll Go" to everyone. During the day reading
pals read to their reading buddies. Several students and teachers
dressed as their favorite storybook characters. A grand time was
had by all!
Students
were challenged to complete a Read Across America Webquest.
