VISION, MISSION STATEMENT,  GOALS, AND BELIEFS

Our mission at DeBusk Elementary School, with active support from parents and community, is to provide each student with the opportunity to successfully meet lifelong educational challenges and become productive members of society.

Reading/Language Arts Goal:  

To improve grades K-8 reading / language arts performance by increasing achievement by 2 NCEs (compare 2007 performance to 2008 performance) for all students and meeting AYP proficiency or safe harbor and attaining standard gains for all subgroups in 2008 and 2009.

Math Goal:  

To improve grades K-8 math performance by increasing achievement by 1 NCE (compare 2007 performance to 2008 performance)  for all students and meeting AYP proficiency or safe harbor and standard gains for all subgroups in 2008 and 2009.

Science Goal:  

To improve grades K-8 science performance by increasing achievement by 2 NCEs (compare 2007 performance to 2008 performance) for all students and meeting AYP proficiency or safe harbor and attaining standard gains for all subgroups in 2008 and 2009.

Social Studies Goal:

To improve grades K-8 social studies performance by increasing achievement by 2 NCEs (compare 2007 performance to 2008 performance) for all students and meeting AYP proficiency or safe harbor and attaining standard gains for all subgroups in 2008 and 2009.

• A positive and safe environment is a priority when learning.
• All students are capable of learning.
• All students should be challenged by using instruction that addresses individual learning styles and individual needs.
• Each staff member should re-enforce values such as respect, fairness, and honesty through mutual respect between students and staff members.
• High standards and expectations should be the norm in every classroom.
• New ways of assessing student performance must supplement traditional standardized testing.
• Schools and families should be the team to guide the educational process.
• The community's opinions and partnerships are important for decision making to effectively meet the needs of students. 
• Students learn best when they are active participants in the learning process.
• The school community should adhere to the policies of the Department of Education, the local education agency, and the school.
