The Junior Beta Club is sponsored by our guidance counselor, Polly Holtkamp. Middle school students who have an outstanding academic record are invited to become members. The members of the club provide the school with volunteer workers in the office and library as well as sponsor and work on community service projects.
The first school-wide project for the 2006-2007 school year was Operation Christmas Child. Classes and/or individual students were asked to take an ordinary shoe box , fill it with toys and other presents. Through Operation Christmas Child, children who are refugees of civil war, survivors of a natural disaster, or victims of extreme poverty, will be receiving the twenty-one shoe boxes from DeBusk along with shoe boxes from other generous individuals and organizations. DeBusk students are making a world of difference. Members also counted and bundled Food City receipts as they were received; and the school was able to get a media cart, a projector, and several playground balls.
On May 17, seven sixth graders were inducted into the
Jr. Beta Club as their parents, teachers, and classmates watched.
After the ceremony, refreshments were enjoyed by the members, parents,
and teachers.
