We are experiencing an
exciting year
at Chuckey Elementary School filled with wonderful learning
opportunities.
Our faculty and Staff are here to foster learning and growth by
nurturing,
encouraging, and challenging each student. As a member of the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools, as well as, being a School of
Promise,
it is our goal through hard work, perseverance, and respect that all
students
will acquire the skills to become self disciplined, knowledgeable,
independent,
responsible citizens. The faculty and staff enjoy working with every
student
and parent. Together, we can achieve optimum success. Chuckey
Elementary
School is a wonderful place to work and learn. We invite you to share
in
our many special activities throughout the year.
Special Programs
* Science Lab - Hands on
activities abound
in Chuckey Elementary's science lab provided by the Niswonger
Foundation.
Students explore the world of science via experiments, internet
research
(using wireless laptops provided by the Beaumont Foundation), and
examination
of science models.
* Camp Read-a-Lot - Students
at Chuckey
Elementary have enjoyed Camp Read-a-Lot at the end of each six weeks
for
attaining their reading goal. Students have experienced a variety
of activities including reading around the campfire, making a camp
craft,
book sharing, and eating a camp food. Librarian, Michelle Hankins, is
the
camp director. We continue to encourage students to go beyond their
established
goal to enjoy reading for purpose and pleasure.
* Pirates Cove
& Brain Gym -
Chuckey Elementary School had a Luau to open two new areas at the
school. With the help of businesses and community members,
Chuckey Elementary opened the Pirates’ Cove Workout Area and The Kids’
Corner Brain Gym. Both areas were created to be utilized as part
of our Positive Behavior Support reward system and as instructional
arenas. Several businesses including Lowe’s for the Lowe’s
Toolbox for Education Grant of $5000, Home Depot, Corner Pawn, Modern
Woodmen, and Food City Apples for Students Program.
Community members that were thanked included Sherry Hensley, the artist
that painted the scenes in the Pirates’ Cove, Tim Armstrong for
donations to the workout area, Valerie Walters for technical
support, Rick Poore, custodian of Chuckey Elementary, the Greene
County maintenance department, the summer help from the workhouse, and
supervisor, Judy Phillips. Students, Kristen Dixon, Amy Hankins, Eli
Barbour, Gloria Vazquez, Hunter Johnson, Logan Harmon, and Andrea
Vazquez were thanked for their work in these two areas. They also
served as tour guides as each student viewed each room. Every
student received a lei, a container of fruit, and a slushy.
Students will be able to spend time in these areas by purchasing time
with their KNOWS tickets that they get for good behavior, as a class
reward, and as an instructional time provided by their
teachers.
