School-Parent Compact

Chuckey-Doak Middle School

 

The Chuckey-Doak Middle School and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.

 

This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2006-2007.

 

School Responsibilities

 

Chuckey-Doak Middle School will:

 

1. Provide high–quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective

    learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s

    student academic achievement standards.

 

2. Determine the student’s educational needs and adjust the instruction to

     accommodate those needs.

 

3.  Hold parent-teacher conferences at least annually during which this compact  

    will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

 

4. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress. Specifically,

    the school will provide reports as follows:

         

·        Interim reports will be issued at the mid-point of each six-week grading period.

·        Grade cards will be issued at the end of each six-week grading period.

·        Provide to each parent an individual student report about the performance of their child on the State assessment in at least math, language arts and reading.

 

5. Provide parents reasonable access to staff. Specifically, staff will be available

    for consultation with parents as follows:

 

          Teachers are available by phone or pre-arranged conference during their planning time each school day. Parents may phone (787-2038) to schedule conferences.

          Parents may write notes or e-mail teachers. Teacher e-mail addresses are listed on the Chuckey Doak Middle School website at: http://www.greenek12.org/cdms/.     

 

6. Provide information about school activities and programs through

·        Newsletters

·        Phone

·        Email

·        Notes and letters

 

7. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom activities, as follows:

 

          Contact should be made with the child’s teacher or the school principal, Mrs. Amy Brooks, at 787-2038 to make arrangements to observe your child’s class.

          Contact your child’s teacher for opportunities to volunteer and participate in their class.

 

8.  Demonstrate care, concern, and respect for all.

 

9. Explain and model the behavior and ways of doing things that are expected of students at school.

 

10. Assign meaningful homework assignments that support classroom instruction.

 

11. Have high expectations of ourselves, students, and other staff.

 

Parent Responsibilities

 

We, as parents, will support our children’s learning in the following ways:

 

·        Monitoring attendance, including arrival to school on time.

·        Making sure that homework is completed.

·        Make sure my student gets adequate sleep and has a healthy diet.

·        Participating, as appropriate, in decision relating to my children’s education.

·        Promoting positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.

·        Staying informed about my child’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child or by mail and responding, as appropriate.

·        Supporting school rules and procedures

·        Encouraging positive attitudes about school.

·        Attending parent-teacher conferences.

 

Student Responsibilities

 

We, as students, will share the responsibility to improve our academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, we will:

 

·        Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need to.

·        Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school every day.

·        Attend school regularly.

·        Be on time for classes and events.

·        Bring pencils, pens, paper, textbooks and other necessary learning tools to class.

·        Complete my assignments and turn them in on time.

·        Help to keep my school safe and clean.

·        Respect the personal right and property of others.

·        Comply with school rules

·        Cooperate with parents and teachers.

·        Be truthful and keep my promises.
