Using Microsoft Word

To open program:

1.Click the Start button on the taskbar.

2.Point to Programs on the start menu

3.Point to Microsoft Word on the Programs submenu.

To create a document:

1.Type your document on the blank page.

2.When finished typing, you must save the document before exiting the program.

To save a document:

1.Click on the File menu.Point to Save As on the File menu and click.

2.In the File name text box, enter a name for the document.

3.Click on the Save in box and then point to the place where you want to save the document.If saving on a floppy disk, then make sure this box reads 3 1/2 Floppy [A:].

4.Click on the save button.

To print a document:

1.Click file on the menu bar and then point to Print on the File menu.

2.Click Print.

(You may also click on the printer icon at the top of the page to print.)

To open a document stored on disk:

1.Click the Start button on the task bar.Point to Programs.Point to Microsoft Word.

2.When the window opens, click File on the menu bar and then point to Open.

3.Click Open.Click the Look in box arrow.Point to the 3 1/2 floppy [A:] icon.

4.Click on the 3 1/2 floppy [A:] icon.When the filenames display in the window, click on the name of the file you wish to open.Then point to the Open button.

5.Click the Open button.

To increase or decrease the font size before typing:

1.Point to the Font Size box arrow on the Formatting toolbar.

2.Click the Font Size bar arrow on the Formatting toolbar.

3.Point to font size, say 20.

4.Click font size 20.

To change the font size of Selected Text:

1.Highlight text to be changed by placing mouse at the ending point, holding down the left mouse key, and dragging the mouse back across the text.

2.Click the Font Size arrow on the tool bar, and then point to the down arrow on the Font Size scroll bar.

3.Click the down arrow on the scroll bar until the font size list is displayed.Point to the size font you desire, and click.

To change the font of Selected Text:

1.Highlight text to be changed.

2.Click the Font box arrow on the Formatting toolbar, scroll through the list until you find the name of the font you desire.Click on the font name.

To Bold, Italicize, or Underline Selected Text:

1.Highlight text to be modified.

2.In the formatting bar, click on the B to bold text, I to italicize, and/or the U to underline the text.

To change the default Margin Settings:

1.Click File on the menu bar and then point to Page Setup.

2.Click Page Setup.If necessary, click the Margins tab when the Page Setup dialog box first opens.

3.Make changes to right, left, top, or bottom margins settings.

4.Click the OK button.

To change the Spacing of a Document:

1.Highlight text to be changed if the document is already completed.

2.Click Format on the menu bar and then point to Paragraph.

3.Click on Paragraph and find the Line Spacing box.

4.Point and click on the arrow beside the line spacing box.

5.Click on desired spacing- single, 1 1/2, or double space.

6.Point and click on the OK button.

To create Labels:

1.Click Tools on the menu bar and point to Envelopes and Labels.

2.Click on Envelopes and Labels.If necessary click on the Label tab.

3.Click in the label box and then select the size and/or number of the labels you are using.

4.If printing all the same label, fill out the address label with the correct information.

5.If printing different labels, click on the New Document button.

6.After you have completed typing you labels, press the print icon.

To Copy text from one place to another:

1.Highlight text to be copied.

2.While holding down the control key, press the C key.

3.Put cursor where you want the text to be placed.While holding down the control key, press the V key.

*If you want to completely cut the text out, hold down the control key, and then press the X key.
