This web page is about using CAT. CAT is a computer assisted testing program written by Gary Spears. He has given permission for this software to be used by Greene County Schools. The program is great for multiple choice and True/False tests. It has a management system and tests can be printed out or given on the computer. Following are directions for using CAT.
CAT is a DOS Program that will run fine in Windows 3.x, Windows9x, and from a Novell Server It is very easy to use by students and teachers.
Note: Have your TST or BLT install CAT and place a short-cut on your computer/computers that you and your students will be using.
Students using
CAT
· Double-click on the CAT icon to start the program. You should see a screen similar to the following:
· Type your first and last name after the question mark. Be sure the CAPS LOCK is on as all letters must be capital. Press ENTER.
· Next you will see the Question File Menu. It contains the names of the tests which you may choose from and looks similar to the following:
· Use the up and down arrow keys to select the test you want and press ENTER.
· You will see Question #1 and the possible answers to the question. Enter A, B, C, or D and press enter. If you get the correct answer, you will go to the next question. If you get the incorrect answer, you will get the same question again. You must enter the correct answer before you can go to the next question. If you answer incorrectly the first time, the question is scored as incorrect. You do not get credit for anwering correctly the next time.
· The computer will display you current score, Question number, number of questions, and your highest possible score.
· When you finish the test the computer will display you score and save it. It will look similar to the following:
· Press ENTER to continue. This will restart the program and ask you to enter your name. To take another test type in your first and last name. To quit the program, type QUIT.
Note: To quit the program during a test, press ESC. When you are ask to enter your name type QUIT.
