of Email
Email Etiquette
§Watch your tone.Be especially polite to strangers.
§Keep your message short and to the point.
§Avoid foul language.
§Double-check your humor.People do not always understand sarcasm and irony when it comes without facial expressions or voice intonations.Sometimes it helps to clarify your humor by adding a smiley face to let your reader in on the joke.:-) (colon, hyphen, right parenthesis)
§When you capitalize all your text, it is perceived as shouting.Capitalize only when you want to emphasize an important word or phrase.
§Don’t send messages full of anger or outrage.It may sometimes be perceived much worse than you intended.
§Your subject line should be used to tell the recipient as much about the message as possible.Keep it short and to the point.
§Check your spelling.
§When in doubt, save your message overnight.Read and edit it again the next day before you send it.
§Forging e-mail return addresses is not that hard.If you get a totally off the wall message that seems way out of character, it could have been forged as a prank.
§Many people on the internet do not use their real names.People can remain totally anonymous on the internet, so be careful.
§E-mail is not very private.Your system administrator can read your e-mail, and there is always the threat of hackers.Also, a glitch in the system can cause your message to be sent to the wrong address.
§Be careful when forwarding mail.Some e-mail addresses actually send to a group of people.
§Don’t pass on chain letters, or any letter that gives you a chance to earn easy money.These letters are an annoyance, they don’t work, and most importantly, they are illegal.

part after the @ identifies the computer within the organization
ØThe middle part is the name of the company, school, or organization
ØThe
last part of the name is its zone.

Zones are three letters long.

– educational institution
§gov
– U. S. government body or department
§int
– International organization
§mil
– U. S. military site
§net
– Networking organization
§org
– Anything that doesn’t fit elsewhere, usuallynon-profit
group
ØGeographical
Zones are usually two letters long.
§uk
– United Kingdom
§jp
– Japan
§fr
– France
§us – used by schools, cities, and small organizations in the United States.The code ci before us signifies city and k12 signifies schools.
To add an attachment:
1.Compose
email message as normal.
2.Click
on attachment icon.
3.Choose
either File or Web
Page to attach.
4.If
you choose Web Page you have
to know the address of the page.
5.If
you choose File, click on
the arrow beside the Look in
box.
6.Click
on where you need to find the file. (3 ½floppy
[A:], [C:], or My Documents)
7.Click
on the name of the document you want to attach.
8.Click
on the Open button.
9.Click
on the Send button.You’re
done!
To add addresses to your address book:
1.While
you have a message open, click on Message from the task bar.
2.Point
and click on Add Sender To Address Book,
or Add All to Address Book.
3.You
will get a different window for each address that is added.
4.Click
on Okay to add that person’s
e-mail address to your address book.
